American Mexican Leadership Council Welcomes Upcoming U.S.-Mexico Bilateral Negotiations, Calls for Renewed Commitment to North American Competitiveness
LOS ANGELES — The American Mexican Leadership Council (AMLC) welcomes today’s negotiations between the United States and Mexico as an important opportunity to reinforce one of the world's most consequential economic partnerships and strengthen North America's global competitiveness.
For more than three decades, the United States and Mexico have built one of the most integrated trading relationships in the world, totaling over $971 billion annually. Today, millions of jobs, resilient supply chains, and shared economic prosperity depend on continued collaboration between the two countries.
As leaders prepare to discuss implementation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the AMLC encourages the governments of the U.S. and Mexico to support a shared commitment to strengthening regional competitiveness, creating certainty for businesses and workers, and expanding opportunities for innovation, investment, and economic growth.
"The United States and Mexico succeed when we work together," said Adria Márquez Trejo, President and CEO of the American Mexican Leadership Council. "Our economic partnership is one of the greatest competitive advantages either country has. These negotiations represent an opportunity not only to resolve current challenges, but to chart a stronger path forward that benefits workers, businesses, and communities on both sides of the border."
With $2.34 billion in daily bilateral trade, the U.S.-Mexico relationship has become a cornerstone of North America's economic strength. Manufacturing, agriculture, energy, technology, and advanced industries increasingly rely on integrated supply chains that make the region more resilient and better positioned to compete globally.
The AMLC believes the upcoming negotiations should prioritize:
Preserving the certainty and stability that USMCA provides for businesses, workers, and investors.
Strengthening North American manufacturing and supply chains to enhance global competitiveness.
Expanding cross-border investment and innovation in strategic sectors, including advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, clean energy, and emerging technologies.
Continuing close cooperation to address shared economic and security challenges.
At a time of increasing global competition, the United States and Mexico have an opportunity to deepen, rather than diminish, their economic partnership. A strong bilateral relationship benefits not only both nations, but the competitiveness of the North American region as a whole.
The AMLC remains committed to advancing constructive dialogue and fostering collaboration among business, civic, and government leaders to ensure the U.S.-Mexico relationship continues to serve as a model for economic partnership, innovation, and shared prosperity.
