Our Vision

We envision a future where economic opportunity, economic security, and prosperity are expanded for our communities and the United States - through elevating our leaders and voices, and a dynamic U.S. Mexico partnership.

Why Now?

UNLOCKED POTENTIAL

The future prosperity of the United States is deeply tied to the U.S.-Mexico partnership and the growing economic power of Mexican American communities. However, more intentional policy leadership is needed to address critical issues ranging from growing supply chains, lowering prices, creating jobs, expanding opportunity for families, workforce and labor issues, and supporting entrepreneurship and bilateral opportunities.

RISING POLARIZATION

Discourse around Mexican Americans and those of Mexican heritage is becoming increasingly polarized, with rhetoric and attacks that divides and distracts from the many contributions of our communities and constructive solutions. This environment makes serious, solutions-oriented dialogue more urgent than ever.

MISINFORMATION & MISREPRESENTATION

Continued misinformation, misrepresentation, and a lack of understanding of the U.S.-Mexico relationship and Mexican Americans persist. There is an escalation of outright negative portrayals, harmful stereotypes, and sensationalized media.

THE NEED FOR ENGAGED LEADERSHIP

Mexican Americans are leading in every sector and at every level across the country, and the opportunity now is to tap into that leadership and expertise to build a better and more prosperous future.

America 250 Semiquicentennial Logo

As the United States approaches its Semiquincentennial, AMLC affirms that Mexican Americans and immigrants have been central to the American story, building industries and starting businesses, fueling economic growth, enriching art and culture, serving in the military, and contributing across every sector of society.

  • “Culture shapes how we see each other – and for too long, Mexican Americans have been defined by stereotypes instead of our full stories. The American Mexican Leadership Council is creating space for leadership that reflects who we really are and the impact we have on this country.”

Eugenio Derbez, Actor, Writer, Director and Producer

  • “The relationship between the United States and Mexico stands among the world’s most consequential alliances, yet it has too often been undervalued and obscured by misperceptions and political rhetoric. The American Mexican Leadership Council will convene distinguished leaders from every sector to engage in rigorous, evidence‑driven collaboration that advances policies capable of strengthening our families, our economy, and the future of our nation.”

George L. Pla, Founder and CEO of Cordoba Corporation

  • “Mexican Americans are deeply rooted in this country and have made immeasurable contributions over generations, however all too often our voices are not represented on issues that impact us –whether that be on key issues like the economy and healthcare. Our communities also reflect the enduring relationship between the United States and Mexico. The AMLC brings that perspective forward to advance policy and strengthen the communities that power our shared future.”

Cástulo de la Rocha, President and CEO of AltaMed Health Services

  • "Effective leadership bridges communities, policy, and global engagement. The American Mexican Leadership Council recognizes that the future of North America’s prosperity depends on a strong and forward-looking U.S.–Mexico relationship."

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Former Chair of the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs

  • “Mexican Americans have played a defining role in the life of this nation – in public office, in business and innovation, labor and workforce, and in civic leadership. The AMLC is a vehicle to bring the vast expertise, influence and experience of our community together to advance policies that strengthen our communities and country.”

Rosario Marín, former Treasurer of the United States

  • “As someone who has spent my career working across borders, I believe deeply in leadership that is informed, collaborative, and forward-looking. The American Mexican Leadership Council is built to advance that kind of leadership—strengthening ties, building trust, and delivering real impact for our communities in both countries.”

Ambassador Nathalie Rayes, Co-Chair of AMLC’s Board of Directors

  • “The American Mexican Leadership Council provides a needed national platform to connect and elevate Mexican American leadership at a time when the future of our country depends on it. By bringing together leaders and advancing informed policy, the AMLC strengthens the U.S.–Mexico economic relationship and expands opportunity for communities and businesses across the country.”

Massey Villarreal, CEO and President of Precision Task Group, Inc. and former Chairman of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce, and United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

  • “Throughout our history, Mexican Americans have strengthened this nation in every sector of public life. Yet too often our story is incompletely told or overshadowed by misinformation and harmful rhetoric that seeks to diminish us. The American Mexican Leadership Council brings together leaders from across the country to elevate the full measure of our contributions – aligning leaders from across our community of nearly 40 million strong to shape policy and inform the national discourse.”

Hon. Federico Peña, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation and Energy and former Mayor of Denver

  • “A strong U.S.–Mexico partnership drives investment, supports business growth, and helps lower costs across our economy.
