American Mexican Leadership Council on the Passing of Dolores Huerta

AMLC President and CEO Adria Márquez Trejo reflects on Huerta’s legacy and impact on generations of Mexican Americans

NATIONWIDE — Following the passing of Dolores Huerta, Adria Márquez Trejo, President and CEO of the American Mexican Leadership Council (AMLC), released the following statement:

“Dolores Huerta changed what was possible for Mexican American workers in this country. From the picket line to the bargaining table, Dolores made sure Mexican American workers had a voice at a time when too many were expected to work hard, stay quiet and accept decisions made without them. As a Mexican American woman leading one of the country’s most consequential labor movements, she broke barriers herself while fighting to give generations of workers greater power over their wages, working conditions and futures.

“Dolores understood that the people powering our economy deserve a voice in shaping it. Her legacy reaches far beyond the labor movement: she showed generations of Mexican Americans that the leaders, visionaries, and icons who shape our country’s history can look like us, sound like us, and come from our communities. Honoring her legacy means continuing to elevate Mexican American voices and ensuring our community has a seat at the tables where decisions about our shared future are made.”
