American Mexican Leadership Council Statement on the 2026 Midterm Election Results

AMLC President and CEO Adria Márquez Trejo underscores election as defining moment for Mexican American leadership

NATIONWIDE — In response to the 2026 midterm election results, Adria Márquez Trejo, President & CEO of the American Mexican Leadership Council (AMLC), released the following statement:

“Last night marked a defining moment for Mexican American leadership and our nation’s political landscape.

“Across the country, Mexican American leaders are breaking barriers, including Xavier Becerra, elected California’s first Mexican American and Latino governor, and Gina Hinojosa, elected Texas’s first Mexican American and Latina governor. These milestones reflect generations of resilience, civic engagement, and public service.

“We congratulate Representatives Joaquín Castro (D-TX) and Rudy Yakym (R-IN), Co-Chairs of the bipartisan U.S.-Mexico Congressional Caucus, on their re-election, and recognize the continued leadership of Caucus member Pete Aguilar, who is anticipated to serve as House Majority Whip. Their leadership underscores the importance of a strong, forward-looking U.S.-Mexico partnership.

“Nearly 40 million Americans of Mexican heritage have a profound stake in our nation’s future. Our community is integral to America’s economic strength, democratic institutions, and global competitiveness. Our voices and experiences must be reflected where decisions are made.

“At a consequential moment for North America, decisions on trade, workforce development, economic competitiveness, and regional security will shape generations to come. Mexican Americans must help shape that future.

“We celebrate this progress while recommitting to expanding opportunity, strengthening bipartisan partnerships, and advancing the next generation of Mexican American leadership.”
